Caritas LAC Theological Advisory Commission launches series of texts "Organizing Hope"
Cáritas Latin America and the Caribbean, through its Theological Advisory Commission, launches a series of texts titled "Organizing Hope". This initiative's main objective is to reflect on the meaning of Christian hope in the current realities of the region, within the framework of the Jubilee Year 2025.
The series "Organizing Hope" seeks to be a tool of reflection for action, inviting communities to live with the conviction that hope, when organized and lived in love, does not disappoint.
The first text in the series, written by Fr. Edwin Aguiluz Mila, part of the question Really, does hope not disappoint? and offers a profound reflection on hope in the face of the current situation of humanity, marked by hunger, war, inequality, injustice and corruption. The author is a priest of the Archdiocese of San José, Costa Rica, and national director of Cáritas de Costa Rica.
Cáritas is a sign of hope
Aguiluz highlights that hope is an active virtue, not a mere passivity. It inspires the creation of supportive and fraternal communities, in which relationships are based on love and the search for the common good, challenging selfishness and exploitation. In these communities, equality is promoted, those most in need are supported and it is shown that goodness continues to grow despite the evil of the world.
Our solidarity service from Caritas is a manifestation of God's love. We can help many brothers and sisters to create networks of supportive, fraternal, fair relationships, despite the fact that the tares, as Jesus himself has warned, continue to coexist with the wheat of our communities.
Caritas' service in solidarity with victims of violence, people deprived of liberty, the sick, the young, the elderly, migrants and victims of poverty is a concrete testimony of the love of God that is poured out in our hearts. In this way, Cáritas' actions are part of the "multiple signs of hope" that bear witness to the presence of God in the world.
Theological Advisory Commission
The Theological Advisory Commission of Cáritas Latin America and the Caribbean has as its fundamental mission to advise and generate inputs for theological reflection. Based on the ecclesial and cultural identity of the region, this commission seeks to strengthen the identity and spirituality of Cáritas LAC, as well as guide its evangelizing action in the face of social and ecclesial realities. Furthermore, their theological work allows them to see beyond the obvious, thus fulfilling the prophetic task of the organization and offering valuable reflections for the various communities of life and service of Caritas throughout the region.
