Cáritas Chile invites you to support those affected by the Viña del Mar fires
After the damage caused by the forest fires last December in Viña del Mar, Chile, Cáritas Chile, together with Cáritas Valparaíso, maintain the solidarity campaign to support the communities affected by the incident, which, according to preliminary figures, left two dead, 300 injured, 371 families affected and 111 hectares devastated by the fire. Cáritas Chile reported through its portal that, from the first moment the emergency began, they accompanied the area with their Environment Program, Emergency Risk Management (MAGRE). “We have participated in coordination meetings with public organizations and other civil society organizations with the purpose of defining lines of work, according to the needs of the affected families,” they explain.
Call to rebuild
The “Solidarity Campaign for Viña del Mar” aims to focus on the rehabilitation stage, since the immediate needs are covered. The Director of Cáritas Valparaíso, Leonardo Córdova, said: "For us it is essential to have the resources that allow us to define with each of the affected communities according to their specific needs, to identify what is the most appropriate help and how we should deliver it so that they can start again in the best possible way."
For its part, Cáritas Chile expresses that during this process it will continue to collect information, in order to deliver a humanitarian response focused on the dignity of people, with a sense of process and that responds to their needs. In addition, Cáritas points out that it will focus mainly on the “Nueva Esperanza” camps and part of “Felipe Camiroaga”, which are in an irregular situation, so they are not in a position to receive public aid.
