In 2021, chronic malnutrition affected 11.5% of girls and boys under five years of age in Peru, as stated by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), when presenting the results of the Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES-2021). Furthermore, it indicates that in urban areas, 7 out of every 100 boys and girls under five years of age are chronically malnourished.

Therefore, it is important that our children have a healthy diet so that they achieve physical and cognitive development. An anemic or malnourished child cannot fully develop his or her brain and limits his or her future possibilities.

Given this panorama, Cáritas del Perú together with Cáritas Callao launch the campaign “Solidarity Lunch Boxes: United Filling Hearts,” which seeks to provide a healthy diet to 255 preschool and primary school children from the Bahía Blanca area in Ventanilla, Callao, who were affected by the oil spill that occurred in January 2022.

The campaign will consist of raising financial funds for the purchase of healthy and nutritious lunch boxes that will allow boys and girls to eat better, so they can perform in their classes and have energy for their daily activities such as studying, playing, playing sports, among others.

Each lunch box will have a bread with and a source of protein such as chicken, tuna, cheese among others, as well as a fruit and a natural juice seasonal fruits, so that they have a high nutritional value, the cost would be S/7.50 each.

Likewise, Cáritas del Perú will organize nutrition workshops aimed at parents in Bahía Blanca, where good practices for the preparation of healthy lunch boxes, practical advice to deal with malnutrition and nutritional tips will be shared, as well as the delivery of recipe books.

We invite good-hearted companies and people to join this campaign that will fill the hearts of these children of Bahía Blanca with hope that a better world is possible.
