The director of Cáritas Haiti, Fr. Yvel Germain, made an important visit to Spain in January, with the aim of presenting the difficult reality of the Caribbean country and seeking international support. The agenda proposed by Cáritas Española included visits to three diocesan Cáritas (Madrid, Bilbao and Burgos) as an opportunity to learn about the work of other Cáritas, thus reinforcing the identity of the network and raising awareness about the situation in the country.

In a context of humanitarian crisis, aggravated by violence and poverty, the priest seeks to raise awareness in the international community about the need for urgent and effective actions.

Violence and violation of human rights

During his stay in Spain, Father Yvel Germain had the opportunity to meet with various authorities, representatives of the Catholic Church and civil society, as well as grant interviews to the press. In his speeches, the director of Cáritas Haiti highlighted the importance of international aid plans being aligned with the reality of the country, and that aid actually reaches the population most in need.

“Despite all this, there is still life in Haiti and the Catholic Church and Cáritas, in this context, continue to stand by the poorest people who are suffering the most. There is a great violation of human rights and the Church understands what must be done an accompaniment of all these people,” said the priest in matter published by Religión Digital.

Support from Cáritas Española to Haiti

Cáritas Española, in alliance with Cáritas de Haiti, has contributed during the last three years of crisis to improving the lives of 20,000 people through 10 action projects humanitarian, livelihood and development.

Following the crisis of violence and internally displaced people, Cáritas Española launched an emergency campaign, "Cáritas con Haiti" to serve the most vulnerable people, to raise funds to help the Haitian population.

The visit of Father Yvel Germain to Spain reinforces the importance of joining efforts to overcome the crisis in Haiti and build a more just and dignified future for all.
