Transforming realities: The role of women in the mission of Cáritas

The words of John XXIII still resonate, who in the Encyclical Pacem in Terris highlighted the growing recognition of the human dignity of women and their demand to be treated with equality in all areas of life. On this International Women's Day, we remember this message with hope, valuing the progress made and recognizing the challenges we still face on the path towards equality and justice.

At Cáritas Latin America and the Caribbean, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting the integral development of human beings, seeking that all people, especially the most vulnerable, can live with dignity and peace. On this day, we turn our attention to women, recognizing the need to move from theoretical recognition to practical action in the Church and in society.

Today, more than ever, it is urgent to listen to the voices of women and respond to their demands for justice and equity. At Caritas in the Latin American and Caribbean region we are committed to listening actively, without prejudice and with hope, seeking to understand your experiences, suggestions and needs. This listening will guide us on our path towards a more just and equitable Church and society.

In the Church's synodal process, we are working to promote intra-ecclesial relationships based on reciprocal co-responsibility. We recognize the need for a deep spiritual conversion as the basis for any structural change, and we commit to continue fighting for a Church that fully includes and values women at all levels of decision-making and leadership.

It is time to repair injustices and offer concrete alternatives so that women can fully participate in the construction of the Kingdom of God. We must guarantee that they can assume responsible roles in pastoral care and ministry, promoting a culture of equity and justice in society and in the Church.

We are on a path towards a more inclusive and just future, trusting in Jesus as our guide. Let us work together to forge bonds of coexistence and cooperation that recognize and value the contribution of women, reaping the fruits of equity and justice for all, without exclusions or submissions.

Let's move forward with hope and determination!
