On Friday, September 20, the workshop "The SDGs and Cáritas Latin America and the Caribbean: A call to action" was held, organized by Cáritas LAC from the Coordination of Programs, Projects and Knowledge Management. This event, led by José Óscar Henao Monje, economist and Knowledge Management coordinator of the SELACC team, focused on the relevance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the key role that Cáritas plays in their implementation at the regional level.

During the workshop, more than 30 members of Cáritas and the Church in Latin America and the Caribbean reflected on how Cáritas' mission is aligned with the SDGs. From the eradication of poverty (SDG 1) and zero hunger (SDG 2), to the promotion of peace, justice and the construction of solid institutions (SDG 16), Cáritas works hand in hand with local communities and social actors to generate a transformative impact.

Cáritas' work is framed in the principles of the Social Doctrine of the Church, always seeking the comprehensive well-being of people, especially the poorest and most vulnerable. Through food security, comprehensive development and emergency response programs, Cáritas contributes directly to the achievement of several SDGs, addressing problems such as inequality, health and climate change.

This meeting also marked the beginning of a series of activities that will promote the exchange of knowledge and learning around sustainable development. Cáritas has expressed its commitment to strengthening alliances and continuing to innovate in its strategies, in order to build a more just and equitable future.

With the collaboration of the regional team of Livelihoods and Food Security, this workshop highlighted the importance of implementing concrete and coordinated actions that reflect the values of solidarity, subsidiarity and the preferential option for the poor, fundamental pillars in the mission of Cáritas.

Thus, Cáritas Latin America and the The Caribbean is committed to promoting the SDGs, actively contributing to the social transformation of the region and demonstrating that, with cooperation and commitment, it is possible to move towards a more fair, inclusive and sustainable development.
