From January 15 to 18, Santiago de Chile hosted an important training event organized by SELACC for Coordinators, Evaluators and Directors (or their delegates) of the Cáritas of Latin America and the Caribbean. The initiative is part of the continuous improvement of the Caritas Internationalis (CI) Management Standards, seeking to strengthen knowledge about these standards and facilitate the effective implementation of evaluation processes, always considering the specific context of the member organizations.

The objectives of the training focused on providing participants with fundamental knowledge about the CI Management Standards and their relationship with the Social Doctrine of the Church. Likewise, it focused on fostering understanding of the scope and attitudes necessary to carry out the EG IQ assessment effectively. The training also addressed familiarization with reporting tools and external evaluation methodology, training attendees to adapt the process in different contexts and address challenging situations.

In addition, learning about communicating conclusions in a final report was promoted, as well as raising awareness around safeguarding and its content. The event had the valuable participation and support of CI staff, leaders in National Cáritas Management and Safeguarding Standards in Latin America and the Caribbean, and members of the team of evaluators in the region. This commitment reflects CI's unwavering dedication to quality and excellence in service to vulnerable communities, consolidating its position as a humanitarian reference.

Lorenzo Figueroa, national director of Cáritas Chile, highlighted the importance of the meeting in the context of Cáritas' mission to contribute to the well-being of vulnerable people. The event was held under the principle of fraternal cooperation, encouraging the exchange of experiences without economic costs. In addition, crucial topics such as risk prevention, including forest fires, were addressed with a valuable exchange of experiences between participants from various areas of Latin America and the Caribbean.

This meeting not only strengthens the practical application of the standards, but also fosters solidarity and mutual learning between participants from different Caritas in the region.
