During his recent visit to Latin America, the Secretary General of Caritas Internationalis, Alistair Dutton, held key meetings with the directors of the National Caritas of Central America in El Salvador. During this meeting, he was able to experience first-hand the reality of these countries and confirm the persistent poverty and inequality faced by many communities in this region of the American continent.

In Mexico, Alistair Dutton met with the Secretary General of the Mexican Bishops' Conference, Mons. Ramón Castro, to discuss the reality of the country. Later, Dutton visited the Basilica of Guadalupe. For two days, he met with the Cáritas Mexicana team, where he heard the experiences of five diocesan Cáritas in the country and had the opportunity to learn more about Cáritas' work in fundamental areas such as health, peace building, poverty reduction, parish animation, training, emergency response, food bank and fundraising, among others.

Subsequently, the Secretary General visited the Cáritas headquarters in Mexico City, where he was able to see the outstanding work in health through medical offices, as well as the commitment to welcoming migrant families and caring for the elderly, in addition to the vital animation of the Parish Caritas. During his visit, he also learned closely about the work of Social Pastoral in Mexico, through its eight pastoral dimensions.

The Secretary General's day had an emotional moment when he shared food with all the staff of CEPS-Cáritas Mexicana, thus strengthening the ties of collaboration and commitment in the humanitarian mission of Cáritas in the region.
