Cáritas América Latina y Caribe | Historias - Se presentó el proyecto "Fortalecimiento de Capacidades para la Gestión del Riesgo a Desastres y para la Atención de la Respuesta Humanitaria"

The project "Strengthening Capacities for Disaster Risk Management and Humanitarian Response Assistance" was presented

On June 5 and 6, with the participation of 82% of the 22 Caritas of Latin America and the Caribbean, four key meetings were held. These sessions were attended by Directors of the National Social Pastorals-Cáritas (PSCN) and national MAGRE leaders, with the aim of presenting the project "Strengthening Capacities for Disaster Risk Management and Humanitarian Response Care", this project seeks to strengthen the response capacity of the PSCN to disasters and climate crises, promoting community risk management that integrates approaches of rights, equality and inclusion. The goal is to guarantee more effective and coordinated responses, supported by a strengthened regional team and solidarity cooperation between the Caritas of the region, reducing vulnerability and improving the resilience of affected communities.

The agenda of the meetings focused on contextualizing and outlining the fundamental objectives of the project. Catherine Mella Quiróz, MAGRE regional representative, opened the sessions with an introduction and goals of the project. Subsequently, María Verónica Bastías, project leader, explained in detail the components of the initiative, the products to be developed and the gradual participation of the PSCN in the region.

In addition, an educational capsule on disaster risk reduction and management was offered, reinforcing the terminology on threat, risk and disaster, as well as the disaster risk formula. Alberto Arciniega, SELACC Communications Coordinator, implemented an interactive dynamic through the Mentimeter platform, allowing participants to share their perspectives on basic concepts of disaster risk management and express their interest in participating in periodic meetings.

These regional meetings represent a significant step towards strengthening disaster risk management in Cáritas Latin America and the Caribbean, promoting cooperation and community resilience.
