Cáritas and CRS have mobilized equipment and resources to support affected communities throughout the region, demonstrating their commitment to preparation and immediate response to natural disasters.

The impact of Hurricane Beryl has been significant on several Caribbean islands. In Jamaica, dangerous conditions are expected this Wednesday, and the government has activated 892 emergency shelters to protect the population. In Dominica, emergency equipment has been deactivated after the immediate threat of the hurricane has diminished. InSt. LuciaSchools and businesses have reopened, and a damage assessment is underway to determine the extent of the damage. In Grenada, damage assessments are being carried out in affected communities, and emergency kits have been distributed in Carriacou. The Island of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has been severely affected, with 90% of houses severely damaged or destroyed and electricity and water services interrupted.

CRS EMPOWER is providing support in developing funding proposals and logistical coordination to ensure an effective response. A solidarity boat will transport emergency supplies, including tarps and water filters, from St. Lucia to Grenada. Additionally, Caritas and CRS are working closely with national emergency agencies to ensure a coordinated and effective response, leveraging their experience and resources to help affected communities.
