I think that the Church has to be very grateful for so many things that we have learned from Latin America, the gift of faith and enthusiasm and the spirit of communion [...] in an experience that is expressed very well in the church and that teaches many of us to continue on an authentically synodal path.

With these words, Pope Leo XIV highlighted the work of Latin America and the Caribbean on the synodal path during the audience of the Jubilee of the Synodal Teams on the afternoon of Friday, October 24, in the Paul VI Hall, in the Vatican.

Nicolás Meyer, coordinator of Cáritas in Latin America and the Caribbean, participated in the event on behalf of the region, presenting a detailed report on the actions developed and the continental roadmap.

Being inspired by people who live the faith

Addressing Meyer's question about how the synodal process can inspire more just and peaceful societies, the Pope offered a reflection that prioritizes the personal over the structural.

"Personally, when one asks, How can a process help us, inspire us? I have rarely felt inspired by a process in my life," the Pontiff commented.

"I feel inspired by people who enthusiastically live the faith."

Pope Leo Personal: "Very fundamental in all this is that we all live an authentic conversion."

The Holy Father concluded that when the faithful live "with this enthusiasm, this conviction," many more will want to join the Church "and be builders of peace and communion."

Concrete actions of synodality in Latin America and the Caribbean

The report presented by Meyer highlighted that the region has established an Animation Commission for the Reception of the Synod and has prioritized convergence with the process of the Ecclesial Assembly held in 2021.

The key points of implementation include:

• Work with the synodal teams of the Episcopal Conferences.
• The preparation of dissemination versions of the Final Document of the Synod in pastoral language.
• The offering of a wide training offer, including courses on the methodology of "conversation in the Spirit" and pastoral planning.
• The beginning of reflection on the reform of structures of some Episcopal Conferences.
• The constitution of a team to deepen the transparency and accountability in pastoral processes. An Animation Commission for the Reception of the Synod, made up of representatives of various ecclesial organizations and vocations, was established in Latin America and the Caribbean.
