From June 16 to 22, 2024, Mexico City is the setting for the Francisco International Summer School of Economics, an event that brings together 40 young people from Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean. Under the premise of "being quarries of hope to understand other forms of economy and progress", this initiative seeks to offer an economic perspective focused on human dignity and the environment.

Participants shared experiences, visited cooperatives and spoke with economists, academics and theologians to delve deeper into the proposal inspired by the legacy of two saints of Assisi: Francis and Clare. This event represents the first Latin American experience after the international meeting led by Pope Francis in 2019.

The School aims to rethink the global economic paradigm, putting people and the environment at the center. Inspired by the spirituality of Saint Francis of Assisi, the objective is to give visibility and strengthen youth and academic networks, promoting economic, ecological and ethical solutions from a Latin American and Caribbean perspective. Thus, we seek to articulate efforts to generate a tangible and lasting impact in our communities and in the world.

Cáritas Latin America and the Caribbean is represented by the Livelihood and Food Security team of the region, through the presence of Gabriela Blanco from Cáritas Argentina and Eduardo Hori from Cáritas Mexicana.
