In coherence with the evangelical call to care for and protect others, Caritas Latin America and the Caribbean formally began last Tuesday April 7 a new edition of the Virtual Diploma "Introduction to Safeguarding". There are 96 social pastoral agents from across the region who will participate in this initiative over the next 2 months. This initiative represents a firm step in the regional strategy to consolidate an increasingly safe, coherent and fraternal Church in its service to those most in need.

The redesign of the safeguarding training offered to the region is part of a broader strategy that integrates institutional strengthening actions, management and communication standards. Agustina Langwagen, Cáritas LAC Training Coordinator, is excited to share the start of the first session of the diploma course. “From our identity and in the key of personal and community conversion, we want to lay the foundations for a culture of care, which is nothing other than a call to the deepest coherence of our vocation as Church,” he emphasizes.

A commitment to the culture of care

Throughout the years 2024 and 2025, the region has already developed the first three editions of the Virtual Diploma in Safe Environments in the Social Pastoral of the Church, recognizing the urgency of training pastoral agents capable of preventing abuse and protecting minors and people in vulnerable situations. This new edition seeks to promote the conversion of Caritas social pastoral agents in the region, from a deep understanding of the care and protection of human dignity, ranging from parish teams to members of national Caritas teams. highest levels of professional integrity.

Comprehensive training for transformation

The diploma, which will run until next June 4, is carried out through a synchronous virtual modality, with asynchronous accompaniment of activities.

The curriculum offers comprehensive training that links the spirituality of care with technical tools for the protection of human dignity. During the diploma, agents explore the ethical and theological foundation of good treatment, the prevention of violence and the study of risk factors in the regional context.

Likewise, the program addresses essential aspects of the pastoral agent's self-care and knowledge of current ecclesial regulations, allowing national and diocesan teams to strengthen their institutional protocols against any form of abuse.

This training process reaffirms the commitment of Cáritas in Latin America and the Caribbean to continue building, together with its communities, a Church that cares for, protects and promotes the dignity of each person.
