April 22 marks World Mother Earth Day, a date dedicated to raising awareness and promoting environmental protection. This day reminds us of the importance of the Earth as our common home and the urgency of preserving its natural resources.

The main objective of this day is to inspire reflection and concrete actions against environmental problems such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, pollution and deforestation. We seek to motivate individuals, communities and governments to adopt sustainable practices that contribute to the well-being of present and future generations.

Various activities are carried out around the world to celebrate this date, such as clean-up campaigns, tree plantings, environmental conferences and documentary screenings. It is an opportunity to unite in solidarity and show our commitment to caring for Mother Earth and building a more equitable and sustainable future for all.

Caritas Internationalis, through its organizations worldwide and in Latin America and the Caribbean, carries out committed work in favor of ecology and environmental care. National, diocesan and parish Caritas work actively on initiatives for the protection of nature and the promotion of sustainable practices. From reforestation projects to environmental education programs, Cáritas is committed to promoting respect for our environment and involving communities in the preservation of our ecosystems.

This year, within the framework of International Mother Earth Day, the Commission for Integral Ecology of Latin America and the Caribbean (CEILAC) continues to strengthen its efforts to raise awareness and mobilize actions in favor of the environment, following the inspiring message of the Encyclical Laudato Si and Laudate Deum.
