National Caritas Communication representatives from 16 countries experienced the culture of encounter in Buenos Aires, from October 3 to 5. An atmosphere of joy, trust and sharing marked the experience of the communicators who participated in the meeting organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Secretariat of Cáritas (Selacc).

The meeting was structured around three main objectives: reflecting on the identity of Cáritas, understanding the proposal for management standards focused on care policies and good treatment, and establish a community of living and learning that facilitates greater exchange among communicators in the region.

At the end of the meeting, a joint statement expressed the main points shared and debated.

Commitment and concrete experience

Two special moments marked the experience in Buenos Aires.

During the mass presided by Mons. Gustavo Carrara, auxiliary bishop of Buenos Aires and member of the Episcopal Commission of Cáritas, all the communicators lit a small candle and expressed their commitment to the work of Cáritas communication.

During his homily, Bishop Carrara highlighted the figure of Saint Francis of Assisi, whose liturgical feast was celebrated that day, who, like Càrias, lives a noble mission focused on selfless service to the less fortunate and the promotion of social justice.

In addition, a visit was carried out to the San José parish, located in a popular neighborhood of San Justo, province of Buenos Aires, in order to learn more about the work of comprehensive human promotion carried out in that community.

A total of 21 representatives from the areas of communication and management standards of Cáritas from Mexico, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Colombia, Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Antilles, Dominican Republic and Argentina participated in the event.
