Cáritas Latin America and the Caribbean reaffirms its commitment to the protection of the most vulnerable through its Diploma in Safe Environments in the Social Pastoral of the Church. This training has been essential to provide national and diocesan Caritas with the necessary tools to prevent abuse in ecclesial environments. As Pope Francis reminds us:"People must know and see the work they do accompanying the ministry of protection of local Churches."

The diploma course, which has added participants and included expert teachers from the entire region of Latin America and the Caribbean, has comprehensively addressed the issue of safeguarding, underlining the urgency of establishing safe environments in all ecclesial instances. Participants have been called to develop concrete projects that not only reflect the learning acquired, but also respond to the specific realities of their communities.

One of the greatest challenges facing Caritas is the effective implementation of these safeguarding policies and procedures. Ensuring that this issue is understood and adopted by everyone, including teams and volunteers, is an ongoing task that the Caritas of the region take on with hope. This effort is and will continue to be a priority, since the protection of the most vulnerable is a central mission in the Cáritas ministry.

The final work that the diploma participants must present focuses on the creation of an implementation proposal adapted to their particular contexts. This project includes a diagnosis of the current situation, the identification of the main risks and needs, and the formulation of specific strategies for raising awareness, training, or creating policies that ensure a safe environment.

As part of its commitment to safeguarding, Cáritas launched last year the campaign "I commit to", which seeks mobilize all members of the ecclesial community to actively engage in the protection of children and vulnerable adults. This call to action is not only an institutional duty, but a commitment of the heart.

Safeguarding training is not only a priority for Cáritas, but an imperative need in a world where the protection of the weakest must be guaranteed. The dedication of participants in developing their final projects will be a testament to their commitment to vulnerable people, and their efforts will become a beacon of hope and resilience for their organizations and communities.
