Cáritas presents a regional guide on inclusive language to promote old age with dignity
With the purpose of transforming social perceptions about aging and promoting respect for human dignity, the Seniors Team of Cáritas Latin America and the Caribbean has launched the guidance guide "Aging with dignity: inclusive language and communication for all ages". The document is presented on October 1, which commemorates the International Day of Older Persons, a date established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1990.
This initiative offers practical guidelines and awareness-raising tools aimed at communicators, pastoral agents, caregivers and society in general. Its main objective is to eradicate ageism and age discrimination, inviting us to build intergenerational communities where older people are recognized as subjects of rights and protagonists of their own lives.
The guide addresses the importance of verbal language and non-verbal communication as key tools of social justice and human rights, aligning with the Inter-American Convention on the Protection of the Human Rights of Older Persons and the teaching of the Gospel.
