Last Thursday, November 21, the second workshop in the series on Sustainable Development organized by Cáritas Latin America and the Caribbean was held virtually. This meeting, titled "The Matrix of Inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean", had as its main objective to understand the components and determinants of the Matrix of Inequality, as well as its interrelation with Cáritas' action in the region.

The workshop had the participation of 43 attendees and was facilitated by the economist and master José Óscar Henao, coordinator of Knowledge Management at Cáritas LAC and was carried out with the support of the Livelihoods and Food Security team of Cáritas LAC.

During the meeting, key topics were addressed such as the definition of inequality and its analysis in the regional context, the structural dimensions that shape it (gender, ethnicity, life cycle and territory), and its impact in the economic, social and environmental spheres. In addition, they reflected on the challenges and opportunities that Cáritas faces to strengthen its impact in reducing these gaps and contribute significantly to the 2030 Agenda.

This workshop highlighted the importance of addressing inequality as one of the main structural problems of Latin America and the Caribbean, given that it directly affects the construction of just, inclusive and equitable societies. From its Christian mission and its social commitment, Cáritas reaffirms its prophetic role by accompanying the most vulnerable communities and promoting comprehensive human development.

This training space allows participants to reflect on experiences and strengthen their commitment to building a more equitable and supportive future.
