Cáritas del Perú supports cocoa producers

Cáritas del Perú, in collaboration with the Colpa de Loros Aromatic Cocoa Agrarian Cooperative and the Food For The Poor foundation, is carrying out the project “Improving the living conditions of cocoa producers” in Pucallpa. With the aim of increasing the production and income of 500 small cocoa producers, technological innovations and specialized training are being implemented.

This project, started in 2022, is being developed in more than 10 vulnerable communities in the Ucayali region. Producers receive personalized technical assistance, group training and internships on production, environmental management and soil conservation. As a result, it is expected to increase the average yield of producers from 500 to 1000 kilos per hectare.

Despite challenges, such as complying with strict regulations to sell cocoa to the Colpa de Loros Cooperative, producers have managed to increase their production and improve the quality of cocoa. Thanks to the training received, cases such as that of Manuel Hernández Rentería and Martha Chamaya Correa show the positive impact of the project on the lives of farmers and their access to competitive markets, such as that of fine chocolates in Europe.

Each success story reflects the perseverance and commitment of a united community in search of a better future, framed in the collaboration between Cáritas del Perú, the Aromatic Cacao Agrarian Cooperative Colpa de Loros and the Food foundation For The Poor.
