With the participation of more than 50 people from across the region, Cáritas Latin America and the Caribbean held, on July 31, a virtual training meeting focused on safeguarding, safe environments and the culture of care, aimed at the regional teams of Livelihoods, Food Security (MVSA) and Communications.

This space, conceived in preparation for the in-person workshop to be held in Brazil between August 19 and 21, Its objective was to level fundamental knowledge among participants with different educational backgrounds and strengthen a common understanding of the institutional commitment to the protection of human dignity.

Father Martín Cabrera Erro, regional reference in prevention pastoral care, offered a profound reflection on the role of the Church in the face of abuse and compassionate accompaniment to the most vulnerable people. His intervention connected the technical aspects of safeguarding with its evangelical root, reinforcing the call for an institutional culture of care.

During the session, the ecclesiastical and strategic foundations of safeguarding were also presented, framed in the Social Doctrine of the Church, the guidelines of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors and the Management Standards of Caritas Internationalis (EGCI), with emphasis on the pillars linked to people, governance and organizational culture.

Likewise, key logistical details of the next face-to-face meeting in Brazil were shared, where topics such as the spirituality of care, communication in crisis contexts and the expression of personal and institutional commitments in terms of safeguarding will be addressed.

This training process not only reinforces the technical component, but also promotes a deeper experience of Cáritas' mission: to be people and communities that care, listen and dignify from the heart of the Gospel.

The initiative is part of the regional process #YoMeComprometo, which promotes the construction of protective environments at all levels of institutional life, making care visible as a transversal axis of spirituality, communication and the transformative action of Cáritas in Latin America and the Caribbean.
